Building the floats

WHERE ARE THE FLOATS BUILD?

Every hamlet builds their own float in their own corsotent. Across Zundert there are nineteen building tents. The building tent of hamlet Schijf is located in the municipality of Rucphen. On the page Visit the build you will find the building places of all hamlets.

ARE THE TENTS FREELY ACCESSIBLE?

Yes, the building tents are freely accessible for everyone if the builders are working on their float. Mostly in the evenings, but sometimes during the day, a big or small group of people are working on the floats. In the months of June, July and August every workday building starts at 07:00 PM. On Saturday building starts at 09:00 AM until 04:00 PM and in August also on Sunday. On Sunday the 20th it’s the open-tent-day. All corsotents are then open for visitors.

IS EVERYONE ALLOWED TO HELP?

Yes, everyone is allowed to help with the building of the floats. At every hamlet you are more than welcome to have a look and help with the build.

HOW ARE THE FLOATS BUILD?

The floats are being built with steel and concrete iron. The steel construction forms the basis for the concrete iron that is pleated into different shapes. The concrete iron forms the basis of seven layers of papier-maché. This is the basis on which at the last weekend the flowers will be attached. For more detailed pieces builders use tempex.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF BUILDING A FLOAT?

The exact costs for each float is different. The floats are entirely build by volunteers, so no money is wasted on man hours. However, for the material, the flowers, the accommodates, the tent and the food and drinks the hamlet have to pay themselves.

WHERE DO ALL THE FLOWERS COME FROM?

The dahlias used for Corso Zundert are grown by the hamlets themselves. Across Zundert there is around 40 hectare of flower fields, just for the corso. The hamlets maintain these fields themselves.
